STEM Education
What is STEM?
STEM stands for science, technology, engineering, and math.
Skateboarding, mountain biking, or Onewheel may seem basic - hop on a board or bike with wheels and move. However, there can be complex science, technology, engineering, and math merging as a skateboard and mountain bike glides through tricks. Board and bike sports are a powerful platform for students to learn about and be motivated to learn STEM education.
For example, we can learn about Newton's third law of motion, potential energy, kinetic energy, angular momentum, gravity, inertia, and friction when a skater glides up and down a half-pipe. Building a skateboard involves understanding engineering and building a ramp involves geometry and the Pythagorean theorem to calculate the proper radius.
Land Sea supports schools and students learning by providing curriculum to supplement existing STEM-related courses, live STEM presentations, pathways to develop board and bike sport electives classes, and competitive board and bike school teams.
Park Development
Does your school or town want a skate park but aren't sure of how to start? Land Sea can partner with you to help provide direction, resources, and even contract to develop a skate or bike park. No matter what your budget is we can provide you with a pathway and options. We contract with certified concrete and ramp development companies to provide plans and construction of skate and bike parks.
Park development requires professional insured services, but also must consider the riders of the park. Land Sea provides professional construction services and understand how skate transitions and berms should feel and be calculated to provide the safest and funnest riding experience. As a non-profit, Land Sea may also be able to facilitate tax-deductible funding for your project.
